POLICE have issued an urgent appeal for witnesses over an attack which left a man with slash wounds to his face.
The 26-year-old was left bleeding profusely from facial cuts after the attack near the Railway pub in Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, at 8.20pm last night (Wed). A 39-year-old man suffered a puncture wound to his rib area. Both were said to be "stable" in hospital.
Police revealed that the attackers sped off in a silver Renault Megane, making off down Huddersfield Road towards Cooper Bridge. The car was later recovered in Horbury, near Wakefield. Police arrested four men aged 20, 29, 32 and 43 on suspicion of violent disorder.
A fifth suspect is currently being sought. The officers are particularly keen for information on the fifth man. They are also appealing for the drivers of several cars to call them. A dark coloured BMW saloon car is known to have been just metres from the disorder when it took place.
As the suspects got into the Megane, a grey Jaguar, a red Vauxhall Astra, a purple Peugeot 106, a black VW Passat saloon and a silver Mercedes estate all had to stop. The drivers of these vehicles are all vital witnesses and are encouraged to contact the police as a matter of urgency.
Enquiries are ongoing and any witnesses, or anyone with information, should contact DS Guy Shackleton or DC Cath Lowdon at Dewsbury CID via 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
