A BRAVE mother tried in vain to save her son, who was killed in a Leeds house blaze.

Seven-year-old Olajulun Lemboye died in the attic bedroom of his three-storey terraced home in Beeston after a fire broke out on Monday night.

His mother, Nigerian- born Omolara Lemboye, passed out twice while desperately trying to save her son from the blaze.

The 37-year-old, known as Lara, was helped by neighbour David Mambu, 33, and another man.

They failed to save Olajulun but managed to get his brother, Joshua, eight, and six-month-old sister, Jumi, out alive.

They are recovering in Leeds General Infirmary with their mother.

The father of the family, health worker Abiodun, was at work.

Police and fire investigators are examining the house to find the cause of the fire. It is thought an electric heater in Olajulun’s room had caught fire at about 10.45pm.

Fire officers conducted door-to-door safety checks on other homes in the street yesterday.

Olajulun is thought to be the second child the family has lost.

Three years ago, the Lemboyes lost a five-year-old son to a night fever.

He was living in Nigeria with his mother and siblings while Mr Lemboye had moved to the UK alone to find work.
