A MUM and two children had a rude awakening after a runaway van ploughed into their Huddersfield home early today.
A builder had parked the van on Ravensknowle Road then returned to a nearby house to fetch some more tools at 7.15am.
But the handbrake may not have been fully on for it rolled backwards down the hill, careering through a fence before smashing into the front room wall of a house on Almondbury Bank.
The house belongs to Asda worker Diane Harrison who was asleep.
Also in the house were her five-year-old son, Liam, and his chum, six-year-old Katie Barnett.
The van had rolled around 100 yards before hitting the home.
Diane said: "I was woken by a large bang and at first thought it was the children messing about. My first thought was that they had knocked the fish tank over."
The van had caused two large cracks on the inside wall and pushed the wall in.
