A Vauxhall Zafira which had been recalled for a problem with a faulty heater was burnt out in a fire this morning.

A Mirfield fire crew was called out at 8.09am to a yard close to Plumbase Spares and Phoenix Pressing, off Wakefield Road, Brighouse.

An eyewitness, Stuart Black, said: “You could see thick black smoke rising up at 8.10am from Clifton.”

Mirfield Crew Commander, James Hopkins, said: “The female owner of the car said she had recently received a letter from the manufacturer saying it was under recall following a problem with the heater.

“She said she had smelt burning as she parked up this morning before going into the store.

“When she came out it was alight and it was 100% destroyed.”
