VOLUNTEERS have been digging for victory in Meltham.

People from bank HBOS created a new vegetable area for pupils at Meltham CofE Primary School as part of Yorkshire Water’s One Million Green Fingers campaign.

The school, which is in the second year of a project to improve its own grounds, wanted an area where each class could plant and grow vegetables.

Yorkshire Water’s campaign aims to create 350 sustainable school gardens and one million green fingers across the region by 2010.

The campaign will get children into the fresh air while helping them learn about sustainability, water conservation, healthy eating and water cycles.
