MEN from Huddersfield and Dewsbury were caught up in a vice clampdown in Leeds.

A police operation led to 28 men being arrested for kerb crawling in areas around the city's main railway station over the last few days.

Uniformed and plain- clothes police swooped to catch drivers cruising around looking for prostitutes.

The men, aged between 20 and 47, come from all over West Yorkshire, including Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Wakefield and Bradford.

Men had even travelled from as far as Harrogate and Barnsley.

All have been charged with kerb crawling and will appear before Leeds magistrates later today.

Det Inspector Richard James said: "Operations such as these have a number of aims. As well as targeting kerb crawlers we look to help get those involved in drugs and prostitution into a better life.

"We aim to reassure the public by reducing the number of prostitutes in the area and addressing the drugs market using enforcement, treatment and diversion.

"The Drug Interventions Programme team will now focus on going out to speak to drug-using prostitutes offering them a way out of crime."
