BURGLARS attacked a couple in their bedroom early today.

The two thieves fled after the raid ended in a struggle.

The incident was one of several burglaries in the Fartown area in the early hours of this morning.

At 4.30am two men broke into a house on Skipton Avenue in Fartown.

After searching downstairs they crept upstairs and attacked the couple, both in their early 60s, in a bedroom.

The husband was hit with a frying pan. His wife was also slightly hurt.

The other attacker was armed with a hammer but the victim managed to grab that to protect his wife.

The thieves then fled from the house, but drove off in the man's car.

The grey Renault 19 - registration number M695 UUA - was still missing today.

Both intruders are white and shielded their faces with dark scarves.

One wore a light-coloured hooded top and the other a dark one.

The other crimes in the area where the victims were disturbed by burglars were:

* 2.16am - someone tried to break into a house on Lower Jade Place through a back door.

* 2.38am - intruders tried to force a window at a house on Aquamarine Drive.

* 2.53am - someone tried to force open the back door at a house on Pollard Street.

* 2.57am - a 79-year-old man confronted an intruder in his home on Red Doles Road. The burglar fled.

* 3.21am - police checking the area found another home burgled on Aquamarine Drive.

* 3.45am - police arrested two men in a car on Aquamarine Drive. They were due to be questioned at Huddersfield police station today.
