CROWDS are expected to flock to Huddersfield’s Victorian Beaumont Park on Sunday for a spectacular gala day which promises fun and entertainment for all the family.
And it will be a notable occasion for the extra-special Friends, who celebrate their 10th anniversary as a volunteer group dedicated to restoring the picturesque amenity bordering on Lockwood and Crosland Moor.
An ambitious programme of events is planned for the gala, which gets under way at 1pm.
The official opening ceremony will be carried out by the mayor of Kirklees, Clr Karam Hussain.
Emley Brass Band, sponsored by the Crosland Moor Community Shop, will feature in the bandstand.
Further musical entertainment will be provided on the terrace by Pennine Jazz.
Other attractions include children’s entertainer G Wizz – with his special mixture of magic, juggling and puppetry – roundabouts, donkey rides and an impressive adventure castle.
The increasingly popular Visitor Centre will be serving food throughout.
Northern Image Children’s Entertainment Group will also be featured, as will Kirklees Council’s mobile library and various trade and voluntary stalls.
The Friends remind visitors that parking will be restricted on Beaumont Park Road.
Public transport should be used wherever possible, said a spokesman this week.
