THE festive season officially begins in Huddersfield tomorrow with the Christmas Lights Switch On.

The Christmas lights will be switched on by CBeebies’ Mr Bloom on the Piazza from 4.30pm on Saturday – with the lights going on at 6.30pm.

Paul Foster and Debbie Lindley from The Pulse Breakfast Show will be live on stage throughout the event, entertaining the crowds with games and music.They will also introduce guests including Kirklees College singers and dancers, the Tom Gee Band and the Piazza People Talent Contest 2012 winner Shawny Dee.

Special guest, Huddersfield’s Town Crier Vic Watson, will bring an extra special festive atmosphere to the event, which is sponsored by Kirklees College and Huddersfield Town Football Club.

Huddersfield Town will be playing a home game against Brighton and Hove Albion earlier in the day (kick off at 3pm) so football fans can make a day of it and join the festivities after the final whistle.

Mascot Terry the Terrier will be on stage to lead children’s Christmas games .

Clr Peter McBride, cabinet member for regeneration for Kirklees Council, said: “The Christmas Lights Switch on will be, once again, one of the highlights of the festive season for so many people.

“We’re delighted to be working once again with Huddersfield Town and Kirklees College on the event.

“We have an excellent line-up of special guests and entertainers this year – there really is something for everyone.

“The warm atmosphere and entertainment from local talent will remind everyone why Kirklees is such a great place to live”.
