VILLAGERS are protesting about road chaos during a hotel's property auctions.

Now, a call is being made for measures to end the misery at Ainley Top.

One angry resident said streets were blocked and the area had ground to a halt during the latest sale.

She added: "People arriving back from work couldn't get anywhere near their homes.

"Those already at home couldn't get out and the hourly village bus had problems."

Residents are calling for police and council action over the sales, which are held every three months at the Cedar Court Hotel.

The woman protester said so many people turned up for the last auction that vehicles were left on pavements and grass verges.

She added: "We've had meetings with council officials, the hotel manager and the auctioneer.

"But the only answer is to totally ban these sort of events.

"Other estate agents are now holding theirs at Elland Road stadium in Leeds and other more suitable locations."

Hotel manager Nick Chester said it was difficult to predict how many buyers would attend the sales.

"We want to get it right and I will be speaking to the auctioneer about the possibility of reducing the number of lots at the sales," he added.

"It does get very busy sometimes, but I have provided extra parking and we're doing all we can to help the residents."
