PADDOCK people may soon get the chance to drop in for a cuppa at their own cafe.

Paddock Community Forum is asking for local people's support for a new venture.

It is looking at the possibility of setting up a community cafe where people can enjoy a hot drink and a chat or a cheap, healthy meal.

The project is one of several being organised following a Whitehall grant last year aimed at

increasing community cohesion.

The forum was given £43,000 from the Home Office's Faith Communities Capacity Building Fund.

The money was used to launch a project involving nine Christian, Muslim and non-denominational groups.

Plans for the community cafe are now being looked at.

Research will involve questionnaires for residents and informal discussions with a range of community groups, schools and other agencies working in Paddock.

It will culminate with a public meeting to draw out people's thoughts and ideas.

It will be held at Paddock Village Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday, February 20.

Project manager Irene Chaloner said: "We want to consult as widely as possible, to involve all the people we can, to know the scheme has the support of our community."

Several other ideas have been suggested for using the cash, including arranging transport for isolated people to go to coffee mornings and English classes for women.

Members of St Thomas's Church, Long- royd Bridge, will help to support people coming to live in this country and a video is to be made with young people from Paddock Community Church.

This will let youngsters show what leisure opportunities are available for different age groups and allow them to discuss what they would like to see.
