YOUNG and old have come together in Upperthong to cele-brate their village.
Pupils from the Junior and Infant School have teamed up with pensioners from the Holme Valley Sharing Memories Group to create a pottery frieze to give their playground a splash of colour.
The youngsters worked with the group’s members to make a map of the village to display in the school’s new outdoor seating area.
The group’s oldest member, 93-year-old Wilfred Clarke, and the youngest pupil to work on the project, Niamh O’Dea, aged nine, unveiled the finished ceramic.
The Lottery-funded pensioners’ group was set up about 12 years ago for people in the Holme Valley.
