THE saga of a torrent of water that has plagued Marsden residents for months is over.

Water had been gushing from the edge of a banking and straight into Reddisher Road - freezing into ice in cold weather.

A blocked outlet was the cause of the overflow, but when Marsden Enhancement Committee chairman Dorothy Lindley tried to get it remedied she met problems.

She contacted Network Rail, the supposed owners of the land, who sent contractors Jarvis to inspect the site.

But Jarvis said the problem lay 200 yards outside Network Rail's boundaries and was therefore "nothing to do with them".

This denial of responsibility led Mrs Lindley to further dispute the case.

Network Rail then sent her a map, on which the site of the problem was recorded.

The map proved the problem was on Network Rail's land. The company apologised and sent contractors to put it right.

"There were thankfully no nasty accidents, and now the map means they know which land is their responsibility," said Mrs Lindley.
