GET ready for a festival of fine folk from the UK and beyond.

The eighth annual Holmfirth Festival of Folk hits venues around the town from tomorrow to Sunday, with concerts, performances and workshops for people of all ages.

Among the highlights tomorrow will be Barnsley-based American and British folk fans String Theory at Holmfirth Cricket Club while French music and dancing takes place at Brambles.

On Saturday award-winning duo Cherrington Ward will be playing the Old Bridge Hotel, while the SheShanties will be holding a shanty singing session at Holmfirth Civic Hall.

Rotherham-based singer and songwriter Ray Hearne will be at Brambles, while The Nook will be staging a singaround.

For youngsters there will be storytelling at Holmfirth Library with a pirate and shanty theme.

Victoria Park will be the venue for dancing with performances from Moldovan dancers.

On Sunday there will be a Punch and Judy show followed by a family ceilidh with Holmfirth’s Good Egg Band in the Market Hall.

From 12.30pm songsmith Roger Davies will lead an eclectic mix of musicians in the Parish Church, before the festival closes at the Civic Hall with Pratty Flowers led by Yorkshire song collector and performer Ray Padgett.
