VILLAGERS are protesting over plans for a dog food factory.
Scores of people have complained after plans were unveiled for Lower Drake Hill Farm at Windmill Lane in Upper Cumberworth.
They are concerned about smells, noise and heavy traffic.
Local councillor Jim Dodds said he had received calls from residents of Birds Edge and High Flatts.
He said: "I do not want to stand in the way of local industry and progress, but we must be sure that this should not be to the detriment of the community."
A decision on planning permission is due to be made by Barnsley Council.
The people behind the project said today tough measures would be in place to stop problems.
Their agent Michael Clynch said he would be visiting a similar operation to see what controls it had in place.
Mr Clynch said: "This is going to be an absolutely state-of-the-art scheme and there should be no problems in terms of noise and odour.
"The manufacture is going to be a very dry process with no meat or offal lying around on the premises."
