TOURISM businesses aim to make their voices heard in West Yorkshire.

Representatives of businesses ranging from hotels and museums to pubs and restaurants attended a membership drive for the Pennine Yorkshire Tourism Association.

Its chairman, Malcolm Warburton, said: "The tourism industry already has a big voice in Pennine Yorkshire.

"But by expanding membership of the association we can make sure we fully represent the industry and improve the services we offer our members."

The event was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, West Bretton.

It was also attended by Yorkshire Tourist Board chief executive David Andrews and council tourism officials.

The Pennine Yorkshire Tourism Association draws most of its members from Kirklees, Calderdale and Barnsley.

Members support each other by trading among themselves.

The association also provides training, regular updates on tourism issues and opportunities for networking.

It provides a collective voice for the tourist industry in the area.

Mr Warburton added: "The benefits of membership are open to large and small businesses and tourist attractions.

"These range from national museums to small, narrow-gauge railways and accommodation providers, from national hotel chains to small bed and breakfast establishments.

"Membership is also open to support organisations such as suppliers, regeneration agencies, shops and market traders," said Mr War- burton.
