NEW opportunities to get involved with the community have been outlined by a Kirklees Volunteer group.

Making a Difference – Kirklees Active Citizens is a new booklet offering advice to anyone looking to engage in civic volunteering.

All roles available are detailed within the booklet and include health and social care, community safety, education, local governance, transport and additional roles.

Featured roles include independent visitors, magistrates, school governors, Kirklees councillors and charity trustees. Rhiannon Vickerman, who took on a school governor role at Meltham Moor Primary School, said: “It was something I had thought about for a few years.

“I wanted to help the community and help the school. I like to feel that I am helping to shape the future.”

Volunteering England Chief Executive Justin Davis Smith said: “It is vital that we build stronger partnerships with local public services as well as with local civil society organisations.”

The free booklet is available online or at Voluntary Action Kirklees, Lord Street.
