VOLUNTEERS are needed to help tidy up the Calder Valley Greenway.

Cycle charity Sustrans has organised the event to clear the overgrown section of Route 66 of the National Cycle Network.

The day – on April 13 – is part of a five-month campaign called CSV Action Earth.

The initiative encourages voluntary organisations, businesses and community groups to undertake projects that are of lasting benefit to the environment.

Last year volunteers across Britain improved land equivalent to the size of 80 football pitches and planted 50,000 shrubs, seeds and trees.

Stephen Broadbery, who is co-ordinating the local event, said: “We’re looking for Action Earth heroes to join us on our environmental project to do something really worthwhile for the community.

“It is everyone’s responsibility to do their bit and we are hoping to see a big turn out on the day.”

The route can be accessed from Ashley Industrial Estate, off Leeds Road.

People wanting to take part should meet there at 9.30am or for more information call Stephen on 01484 424955.
