IT’S often said that many hands make light work.

So 20 volunteers from the Colne Valley Tree Society got together to plant 800 hawthorn and blackthorn bushes at a Meltham farm.

The helpers created a shelter belt from the shrubs to protect dairy cattle at Laund Farm.

Member Brian Moriarty, 66, obtained a grant from British Gas to pay for the materials.

He said: “It’s all about cutting costs and supporting our local dairy farmers.”
