A TOP academic is coming to Huddersfield to mark the centenary of Emily Pankhurst's visit to the town.

The famous suffragette leader addressed supporters at the Town Hall on December 18, 1906, persuading 50 local women to join her movement.

In the speech she mocked future Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who had recently defected from the Conservatives to the Liberals.

Jill Liddington, author of suffragette book Rebel Girls, is to give a talk at the same venue.

Entry to the speech by the Leeds University researcher at 2pm on Thursday, November 9, is free, but by ticket only. Call 01484 221965.
