Voting is under way at a by-election in Golcar today.

It follows the resignation of Labour’s Paul Salveson who stepped down from Kirklees Council last month.

Demands from other interests prompted his resignation.

Five candidates are contesting the Golcar seat. They are: Gregory Broome (UKIP), Daniel Greenwood (Green Party), Christine Iredale (Liberal Democrat), Stephan Jungnitz (Labour) and Clinton Simpson (Conservative).

The result will not be known until tomorrow lunchtime. The count gets under way at 10am at Huddersfield Town Hall.
