AN ELDERLY man who died in a car crash on a notorious stretch of Huddersfield Road has been named.

John Buckley, 87, was killed after an accident on Wakefield Road left his car lying in a field.

Mr Buckley’s green Citroen Aura was in a collision with a black Saab 93 as it turned right on to Ben Booth Lane in Grange Moor on Thursday.

He was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary but died of his injuries.

The driver of the Saab suffered minor injuries in the accident, which closed Wakefield Road for several hours.

The road has claimed the lives of at least 11 people in the last five years.

Seventeen speed cameras were installed last year in a bid to improve safety.

Mr Buckley was from Grange Moor.
