NEW sculptures have been installed at local wildlife sites around Kirklees.

Local nature reserves at Lower Spen in Ravensthorpe, Sparrow Wood in Dewsbury, Lady Wood in Mirfield, and Gledholt Wood in Huddersfield, all now proudly display striking works of art.

The designs, created by artist Lewis Morgan, were the result of workshops and creative consultation activities with groups and school pupils from each of the neighbourhoods.

As a sculptor specialising in wood and stone, Lewis used the sessions to design unique pieces for each of the four sites.

The project was run by arts and regeneration agency, Loca, part of Kirklees Culture & Leisure Services, along with Kirklees Council’s Countryside Unit, in an effort to get local people involved in developing designs.

Cllr Lis Smaje, cabinet member for Leisure & Neighbourhood Services, said: “The four sites are valuable community resources for recreational use, as well as precious wildlife habitats.”
