A NEW 100-mile walking route links reservoirs in the Yorkshire Dales and the Peak District.

The Yorkshire Water Way takes walkers from Scar House, north of Pateley Bridge, to Langsett, near Penistone, in the south.

A book outlining the first 41-mile section of the route takes walkers from Kettlewell in the heart of the Dales National Park, over Great Whernside and into Upper Nidderdale, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The route then goes along the shores of Gouthwaite Reservoir to Pateley Bridge and on through the Washburn Valley to Ilkley.

The book has been written for Yorkshire Water by Mark Reid, author of the Inn Way series of walking books.

The three-day walk he describes includes insights into some of the folklore and points of interest, as well as details of pubs which offer food and overnight accommodation.

The second four-day section of the route - from Ilkley, through Bronte country, the Last of the Summer Wine area and Langsett - will be published next year.

* The Yorkshire Water Way Vol I is in bookshops, priced £3.99.
