A HUDDERSFIELD hospice worker is back home after trekking 70 miles along the Great Wall of China.

Jean Kruger, 52, a grandmother, of Thongsbridge, raised £2,500 for the Kirkwood Hospice through her efforts.

She said: "It was fantastic. It was amazing to see the vastness of it all."

Jean teaches art and gives aromatherapy to day care patients at the hospice in Dalton.

Jean also generated £1,100 to pay for the journey, organised through the organisation Charity Challenge.

She jetted off in October for the nine-day trip to the 1,500-mile wall.

Seven of the days were spent trekking with other fundraisers from around the UK.

Jean, a mother of four children, aged 22 to 29, trained for the trek by walking the nine miles from her home into work.

She said: "I did it for a week then every other day.

"It helped me a lot because my stamina was built up."

The section she walked on, near Beijing, was not open to tourists.
