Youngsters can get in touch with the countryside at Farnley Tyas this summer.

Outdoor education provider Eden’s Forest is teaching local children where their food comes from and how to live in harmony with the countryside.

Eden’s Forest ran its first holiday club in October, 2015, in Hey Wood on the Farnley Estate – since when demand for its courses has grown.

Adam Waterman, founder of Eden’s Forest, said: “It’s all about getting kids back to nature, having adventures and learning to love the

outdoors.

“We teach them fun things like bushcraft and tracking skills in the context of caring for the environment.”

Estate director Paul Sykes said: “More and more studies are showing the benefits of outdoor education on physical and mental wellbeing. Working with Eden’s Forest has shown that there’s a real demand for outdoor education in this area and that Farnley Estates can provide these much needed facilities.

“As well as Eden’s Forest, several local schools already use our land for woodland walks and science and nature lessons. In the future, we hope to encourage more schools and educational establishments to take advantage of the outdoor education opportunities we can offer.”

Eden’s Forest is hosting family bushcraft days on August 11 and 12, which provide activities and bushcraft skills for family groups. Booking is also open to children aged seven to 14 years for Eden’s Forest’s summer holiday sessions. The holiday clubs will run weekdays from 9am to 4pm from Monday, August 15, to Friday, August 26, Go to www.edensforest.co.uk for more information.
