TYKES are being asked to nominate their exceptional memories of "God's own county" for a new award.

The BBC and Yorkshire Tourist Board have teamed up to launch the Yorkshire Moments Award.

The awards aim to recognise places in the region that have given them special moments.

Head of regional and local programmes Tamsin O'Brien said: "Perhaps the moment is a wedding, a Yorkshire sporting event, perhaps someone discovered a long-lost relative or celebrated the birth of triplets.

"Whether you live in Yorkshire or another county, if you have an inspirational memory set in the region, we want you to share it with us."

To enter for the award people need to explain in less than 100 words their Yorkshire Moment memory, which place it is linked to, why you were there and when and say whether you still visit the place or are linked to it in some way.

The winner will be presented with their award by BBC Look North's Harry Gration and Christa Ackroyd during an award ceremony at York's National Railway Museum on Tuesday, October 4.

Entries should be emailed to: yorkshiremom ents@bbc.co.uk or posted to: BBC Yorkshire Moments Award, Broadcasting Centre, 2 St Peter's Square, Leeds LS9 8AH.

You should include your name, contact telephone and address. The closing date for entries is Tuesday, September 27.
