A YORKSHIRE Euro-MP is battling to stop live cattle exports.

Lib-Dem Diana Wallis is backing the Compassion In World Farming group's Stop the Bull Ship campaign, which aims to abolish all subsidies for the export of live cattle from the European Union.

She has called on the European Parliament to end refunds paid on live cattle exports and to ensure that Euro-MPs vote to delete any plans for export refund payments in 2006.

Ms Wallis said: "Compassion In World Farming released video footage obtained during an investigation into the EU-subsidised trade in live cattle from the EU to the Middle East.

"My office has received a lot of correspondence from local people urging me to support this campaign to bring an immediate and permanent end to this cruel trade."
