CAMPAIGNERS will give Christmas presents to two MPs to highlight the problem of climate change.

Friends of the Earth will send copies of Six Degrees to Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman and Colne Valley MP Kali Mountford.

The book, written by Mark Lynas, outlines the possible impact of global warming in the future.

Huddersfield Friends of the Earth organiser Tim Padmore said: “It is a terrifying book.

“What Lynas suggests is that once we have reached the two degrees tipping point, the earth’s own mechanisms will probably lead to a six degrees rise in temperatures. The last time that happened 95% of all life was wiped out.

“Our politicians need to read this book before they vote on the climate change bill.”

Friends of the Earth are holding a march through Huddersfield town centre on Saturday to demand that the bill is strength- ened, including a target to cut carbon emissions by 80% by 2050.
