SHOPPERS have been given an early Christmas warning: Hide your purses!
The plea comes after thieves stole a purse from a 70-year-old woman's pocket as she browsed around a Huddersfield store.
The victim, from New Mill, was in the Wilkinson home and garden store on New Street when the thieves grabbed her purse at 1.35pm yesterday.
She realised what was going on and chased after the two teenage girls, but they fled into the town centre.
One was thought to be Asian, in her mid teens with dark brown hair. She wore a brown jacket with fur around the collar, cuffs and bottom, a white scarf and blue jeans.
Her accomplice was white, aged 14 or 15 and she wore a very dark blue trench coat and navy blue top.
Det Con Steve Shaw, of Huddersfield CID, said: "We don't want people to face the misery of having their purses or wallets stolen in the run-up to Christmas and the hassle of having to stop credit and bank cards.
"Keep your money in zipped up inside pockets or at the bottom of shopping bags where they are out of the sight and reach of thieves."
