HUDDERSFIELD people are being urged not to fall for leaflets urging them to give unwanted clothes to the poor in eastern Europe.
A door-to-door collection company is operating in the town, but it fails to make clear that it is not a charity but a commercial outfit selling the donated items for profit.
Dalton is among the areas being targeted by Ambertop.
Roger Armitage, who had a leaflet through his door, said: "You're made to think you're doing a good turn.
"I immediately knew it was dodgy, but I suppose there will be some people who are fooled."
The leaflet gives only a Hotmail email address as a contact.
Householders are asked to leave the goods in a plastic bag by the front door on a given day.
Leaflets say Ambertop's aim is to provide affordable clothes for people in need in eastern Europe.
Anyone in doubt should either phone the Charity Commission on 0870 333 0123, ring the council to see if the collector has been licensed or give to a charity shop.
