PEOPLE in West Yorkshire are being warned to stay well away from the region's reservoirs during the cold and icy weather.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Water said although a walk round a reservoir may seem an attractive idea, visitors should stay away from the water's edge.

Nikki Kemmery, Yorkshire Water's health and safety manager, said: "Our reservoirs are popular attractions all year round but, with more cold weather forecast over the next few days, we're concerned visitors may be tempted to walk on thin ice which could quite easily break under their weight.

"Our advice is to stay well away."
