WOMEN have been urged never to leave their handbags in cars after a thief used an unusual method to steal one.

He used some kind of tool to neatly cut out a car window in Grange Moor.

He then reached in and took a handbag from the footwell of the car, at the junction of Bedford Avenue and Back Lane in Grange Moor, just before 9am yesterday.

Det Con Gerry Joyce, of Kirklees Police intelligence unit, said: "This happened as the victim was dropping children off at school.

"We would urge women never to leave their handbags on view in their cars - even for a few minutes.

"It is an unusual yet distinctive way to break into a car."

Anyone who has information about the theft should contact Det Con Joyce on 01484 436734.
