HOUSEHOLDERS are being warned to be on their guard against bogus workmen.

Powergen Warm Front said there had been a couple of incidents in West Yorkshire where conmen had pretended to be from the project.

Spokesman Terry Booth said: "Warm Front staff always carry proper identification and householders should always ask to see this identification before letting anyone into their home.

"We don't arrive unannounced at customers' homes and all visits are made by appointment over the phone and by letter.

"We also offer a password service for added security. Customers can set up a password that only they and Warm Front have access to.

"I would urge anyone who is in any doubt about someone calling at their home, to call us free on 0800 183 1051 between 8am and 6pm. Warm Front installers don't work outside these hours."

Powergen Warm Front is a Government-funded scheme which provides heating and insulation measures for people on income and disability benefits or credits, up to the value of £2,500, at no cost to the householder.
