TV LICENCE dodgers in Kirklees are warned to "Get one, or get done".

That is the message behind a new campaign underway this week warning people to buy a valid TV licence or face a hefty fine.

Figures released today show that over the last six months 5,524 evaders were caught in Kirklees.

A new task force and a high-profile campaign aims to catch more dodgers.

Clr Ann Raistrick, Kirklees Council cabinet member with responsibility for supporting communities said TV licences were a legal necessity.

The fine for not having one was often much higher than the costs of the licence itself.

"We encourage anyone evading the licence fee to get this sorted out as quickly as possible and before you get that knock on the door."

A colour TV lic- ence costs £121.

Evaders risk a court appearance and a fine of up to £1,000.

There are several ways to pay.
