PEOPLE in Kirklees are being urged to think carefully when buying cars with the new 2006 registration plates.

The new 06 plates are in the showrooms now but Consumer Direct, Yorkshire and the Humber, says potential buyers shouldn't rush into a decision.

The Government- funded consumer advice service says it has received 3,000 complaints regarding the purchase of new vehicles.

John Field, from the organisation, said: "A car is an expensive and sometimes complicated purchase to make. It really does pay to make sure you're properly prepared.

"Don't be rushed into signing. If you're not sure about any part of the deal, ask for an explanation or get it in writing."
