TAXI drivers in Huddersfield are being targeted by thieves who have smashed three car windows and stolen items left inside.

The first incident happened in Fitzwilliam Street early on Sunday.

The taxi had its windows smashed and a mobile phone and sat-nav system were stolen.

A second taxi was targeted in New North Road and a taxi radio was stolen. Thieves also smashed the windows of a taxi on George Street, Springwood, to steal papers and cash.

We want taxi drivers to be aware that some people are targeting them and to be careful not to leave items inside that could be easily stolen.

Holmfirth motorists are also being targeted after alloy wheels were stolen from cars.

Two car owners were targeted by thieves who stole two alloys wheels off each Ford Focus to make a set.

The first incident happened on Sunday evening in the car park of the Huntsman pub and the second was in Station Road hours later.

We are seeing an upturn in the theft of alloy wheels, so people need to keep their car in a garage if they have one.

If not, make sure your car is parked up against a wall so the wheels cannot be stolen easily.
