Meet Timmy the talented cat – who maybe thinks he’s a dog!

The grey tabby who’s used up quite a few of his nine lives is the star of the Henderson household after some training.

The three-year-old rescue puss can now “high-five”, “sit” and “lie down” on command and is rewarded with treats from 11-year-old Tia Henderson.

The family from Saddleworth have recorded his antics.

Tia’s mum Vanessa, works in the membership office of the Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust, based at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

She said: “We’re lucky to have him.

“He was hit by a car on the side of his head and can’t move one ear or close one eye properly. But he’s very sharp and quite a star.

“It always makes us laugh when he lies down. I laugh every time without fail. It’s so unusual to see a cat do that! “

However his intelligence and sharpness does have a downside, at least for other four-legged creatures..

Vanessa added: “ He’s a very successful mouser. We got him because where we live is quite rural and we were getting mice. We don’t now!”

Cats are one of the UK’s most popular pets.

The last survey last year placed them in fourth position with an estimated 8.5m cats in one fifth of the country’s homes.

Dogs were slightly more popular but, bizarrely, the top two positions were for fish kept in aquariums and in ponds.

Is your cat more talented than Timmy?
