Armed police swooped to make arrests on a busy Huddersfield road.

And a large number of police vehicles were involved in the dramatic incident.

The officers were there to arrest two men who seen driving a black Audi A5 just off the ring road earlier today.

Officers arrested the men without incident outside the premises of commercial printers, Swiftprint, on St John’s Road, Huddersfield, at 3.20pm.

Police say the men were arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and theft.

The drama, just yards from a busy ring road junction, was captured on mobile phone footage by eye-witnesses, who said a number of unmarked police cars and patrol cars were involved.

It is thought at least eight police vehicles were involved in the operation and some officers were armed.

The West Yorkshire Police helicopter hovered overhead for some time as the drama unfolded.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “The vehicle is believed to have been stolen in Leeds.

“It is alleged that the two men have been involved in an armed robbery in Leeds on Sunday, May 22, and a burglary also in Leeds on the 18th.

“They are now in custody and enquiries are ongoing.”
