Students at Moor End Academy are revving up for success at a remote-controlled car competition.

Budding engineers from the Crosland Moor school have been entered into the UK final for Land Rover’s 4x4 in Schools Challenge after winning the North West Regional Final in Halewood, Merseyside.

The teens, who formed the group Robust, will take on teams from around the country to battle it out with the remote-controlled four wheel drive they designed and built.

Team leader Zain Anjam, 15, graphics designer Arvind Gudepu, 15, manufacturing engineer Alyan Saleem, 14 and design engineer Abdullah Sardar, 14, said they were thrilled to come up trumps at the event last weekend.

The team also won awards for the Best Engineered Vehicle and the Best Track Performance.

Alyan said: “We really didn’t expect to win three awards.

“We’ve worked really hard as a team though, so it’s great to win. We’ll possibly make a few design changes before the national final, but we’re not giving anything away!

“We’re looking forward to seeing how all the other teams have engineered their cars.
