THE Nuffield Hospital sell-off deal has been approved by a Government watchdog.

The Huddersfield hospital is one of seven across the UK that was acquired by BMI Healthcare in February as part of a £140million deal.

Government watchdog the Office of Fair Trading have now cleared the merger of the hospital in Birkby Hall Road, Birkby, with the private health provider.

Adrian Fawcett, chief executive of the BMI Healthcare group, said: “We are delighted with the outcome of the OFT review and are very excited about the role that all seven hospitals will play in the future of their respective communities.

“Staff and consultants working in each of these hospitals have established reputations within their local communities.

“I am confident that we can continue to provide even better personalised, proactive and preventative care for patients in these areas.”

He added that patients would benefit from the sale, saying they plan to invest more in medical facilities and technology.

The BMI Huddersfield hospital provides cosmetic surgery, obesity treatment and fertility treatment to patients. It also carries out surgery including hip and knee replacements.
