YORKSHIRE Water has clinched two top prizes at an international awards ceremony for its environmental policies in the countryside and the office.

Judges praised the company for its woodland management and encouragement of wildlife.

The environment and catchment team are the Green Champions in the 2005 International Green Apple Environment Awards.

The company also won a silver award for environmentally friendly in-house policies.

Geoff Lomas, Yorkshire Water catchment and recreation manager, said: "Our prime objective has to be to provide a safe, clean supply for our customers but winning this award indicates that doesn't have to be at the expense of the natural environment.

"We're looking forward to continuing our role as guardians of a landscape which doesn't just belong to us but to future generations."
