THREE elderly woman were targeted by conmen in Huddersfield.

Police believe the three crimes - which took place within three hours on Wednesday - were committed  by the same pair, posing as water board workers.

In two of the cases, the victims became suspicious and made the intruders leave.

The first incident was at 4:25pm when a man purporting to be from the water board called at a house on Devonshire Street, Lockwood, and told the 78-year old woman that he needed to turn off the water supply to the property and check the windows.

The woman became suspicious when the suspect entered the house.  She asked the man to leave and he did so.

Nothing was being stolen.

At 5:45pm, two men turned up with a similar story  at a house on Crosland Road in Oakes.

After they had left, cash and a bank and pension book belonging to a 78-year old woman were found to be missing.

Finally, just before 7:10pm a man purporting to be from the water board asked for access at a house on Keldregate, Deighton.

The man said that he needed to get access to the house to turn off the water supply.

The suspect pushed past the 90-year and entered the house, going into the kitchen and bathroom turning on taps.

The victim then noticed a second man in the living room of her house and demanded that both leave before she called the police.

The men left but nothing was stolen from the property.

The suspects have been described as white men in their 20s or 30s. One of the men is believed to have been  around 5ft 6ins tall, slim and with short black wavy hair.  He was wearing a red and white checked shirt.
The second suspect was of similar height, but stockily built and was wearing a black flat cap and a black jacket.
