YORKSHIRE Water is warning people to stay away from frozen reservoirs.
The company's health and safety manager Nikki Kemmery said many accidents happen when people fall through ice into the chilly water.
She said: "Reservoirs are popular attractions all year, but with the cold spell to continue, we're concerned that visitors may be tempted to walk on thin ice.
"What many people don't realise is that ice can very rarely carry a person's weight and should they fall in, their chances of survival are pretty slim. Our advice is to stay well away."
During freezing weather six years ago, eight people drowned in ice-related incidents.
Five were dog owners trying to rescue their pets.
