WATER levels in Yorkshire reservoirs are filling up.

Yorkshire Water's reservoirs rose by 5% over the past week, taking levels in the region to more than 60% full.

It is the fifth consecutive week that levels have risen.

Yorkshire Water's rain gauges, situated at its reservoirs, measured an average regional rainfall of 32mm for the last seven days.

Richard Flint, Yorkshire Water's director of water business, said: "Over the last five weeks our reservoirs have risen by almost 20% cent.

"Even though the rate of recovery is very encouraging, we are still monitoring the situation closely as levels are still below the seasonal average."

Yorkshire Water has repeated its water conservation message by asking customers to use water wisely all year round.

A spokesman said useful tips and facts on water consumption could be found in a new water conservation calendar it has published.

It is available free to customers on request, together with a save-a-flush device that, when fitted in a toilet cistern, can reduce the amount of water flushed away.
