A PENSIONER can take a bath only after midnight because of a blunder with his new water system.

Carl Walker agreed to have a new water heating system fitted to his home in Bradshaw Crescent, Honley, as part of a Government grant scheme after receiving an unsolicited call from Halifax-based Blue Flag.

The company work in conjunction with Warm Front, which is responsible for the grants to offer better central heating and water systems to old aged pensioners.

The 77-year-old agreed to the conversion to have an electric heating system fitted in his house in August but immediately told the company he had been having problems with his water pressure.

He was told it would not be a problem.

The heater, designed to instantly warm the water, only does so if the water pressure is sufficient.

Mr Walker has found if other people living near to him are using their water the pressure drops and he can draw only cold water.

His daughter Beverley Thomas, 47, of Newsome, is disgusted her elderly father is having to wash in the early hours of the morning even though he explained the situation to the company and the workmen.

She said: "It is absolutely ridiculous. And what makes it worse is he has been waiting so long now for it to be sorted out.

"We have contacted them again and again but nothing seems to be getting done.

"They have even sent people out to have a look at it but still nothing seems to happen.

"Dad said several times there was a problem with the pressure. He asked if that would cause difficulties and was told it would not."

The former motor mechanic even has problems getting enough hot water to do the washing up.

Mr Thomas continued: "He can get some and then the system trips out because there is no pressure.

"I think there must be a failsafe on the system to stop it heating up water that is not there.

"But for my dad the water is there but there is no pressure."

The Examiner contacted Blue Flag but they refused to comment.
