THE man behind one of Huddersfield's biggest-ever development plans is the guest speaker at a business event next month.

David Armitage, chairman of Chapel Hill-based Sellers International, will speak at a Guest Entrepreneur Evening held by Huddersfield University.

Mr Armitage is chairman of Ramsden and Colne Developments, which is leading the Waterfront Quarter scheme to transform a 12-acre site bordered by Chapel Hill, Manchester Road and the River Colne.

The scheme proposes new offices, flats and stores, with riverside walks on land which includes the Sellers Engineering site.

The company plans to move.

Mr Armitage joined Sellers Engineering in 1969 and became managing director in 1978.

Under his leadership the Sellers Group has grown to encompass engineering, property development and a travel agency.

Mr Armitage is involved with Sellers International Brass Band and is a former president of Huddersfield Choral Society.

He received an honorary doctorate in business administration from the university in 2005 and was appointed an Ambassador for Huddersfield in 2006.

The lecture, organised by the university's business school, will be at 7.15pm on Thursday, March 8, in the Central Services Building on the Queensgate campus.

Admission is by ticket only, but there is no charge.
