A resident is shaming customers of McDonalds in Waterloo with pictures showing their disgusting litter.

Alan Farey says the litter problem has been ongoing since the branch opened and wants the fast food giants to take responsibility for litter in the community.

One picture which Alan took shows a discarded cardboard cup dumped just inches from a litter bin at a bus stop on Wakefield Road. Another picture shows general waste on the roadside opposite the Gallagher Retail Park.

Litter from a McDonalds customer left just inches from a rubbish bin in Waterloo

Alan, of Kirkheaton, says he walks along the road every day and is tired of seeing customers from the joint throw their rubbish onto the street.

“It’s not McDonalds’ fault”, said Alan. “It’s the customers who drive off and throw their rubbish out of car windows.

“But I do think they should take responsibility and tidy up the surrounding space that gets littered.

“Now they have said they want to stay open an extra hour until midnight - that’s another seven hours of people littering a week.”

“I know most workers are on a minimum wage but they are a huge company and should set an example.”

A McDonalds spokesman said: “We actively encourage customers to dispose of their waste responsibly, through messages on our packaging and by providing bins and signage both in and around our restaurants.

“Since 1982, restaurant employees have been going out every day to collect litter dropped in the local areas around McDonald’s restaurants.”
