A 44-year-old man has been accused of attempting to murder a 46-year-old man inside a Kirklees supermarket.

The incident happened at the Asda store in Mill Street West, Dewsbury, at about 12.30am on Friday.

Wayne Walshaw, 44, of Mountain Crescent, Thornhill, was also charged with possession of a weapon in a public place.

It is understood the victim suffered serious knife injuries to his throat during the alleged attack which Det Insp Vanessa Rolfe of Kirklees CID confirmed took place inside the 24-hour supermarket.

He appeared at Leeds Magistrates Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody until April 8 when he will next appear in court.

Police say the victim has now been allowed home from Leeds General Infirmary and Det Insp Rolfe said the man had undergone an operation.
