NEW education courses in history and geology are coming to Kirklees.

The Workers’ Educational Association, in conjunction with Tolson Memorial Museum and the Red House Museum, are bringing two courses on geology and literature and history.

Linda Croft, WEA organiser said: “ We work in partnership with museums to offer a wide range of courses targeted at people who are interested in these subjects but are affected by various disadvantages.”

Minerals of Man, one of the two courses on offer, begins January 9 and will examine how minerals are formed, their properties, uses and the techniques in their exploration.

Tolson Museum has a rich collection of geology resources and the extensive mineral collection will be made available during the period of the course.

The second course, The Luddites in the Local Landscape,Literature and History, tutored by John Hargreaves, will begin on January 11.

Both courses, open to over 19s, will run for 10 weeks and will cost £60 – those who receive income-related benefits will pay the subsided amount of £30.
